Angus Holford is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex. He is funded by the ESRC research centre on Micro-Social Change (MiSoC) and the UK's National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)

His main research interests are in family, labour and education economics, with a particular interest in the mechanisms determining human capital investments in and by children and young people, and socio-economic differences in the returns to these investments.

He currently serves on the UK government's Evaluation and Trials Advice Panel, helping ensure that new government policies are robutly evaluated. He formerly served as a Research Fellow to the Behavioural Insights Team (‘Nudge Unit’) at the UK Government Cabinet Office in 2012-2013,

He obtained his PhD from the University of Essex in January 2015. He received his MSc in Applied Economics and Data Analysis from the University of Essex in 2011 and BSc in Economics from Lancaster University in 2010. He joined the IZA as a Research Affiliate in November 2014.
