Juliana Silva Goncalves is an applied and behavioural economist, and her research expertise is at the intersection between the economics of human development and individual decision-making. Her research aims to advance the knowledge on the factors that influence young people’s decision-making and the consequences for their educational, health and labour market outcomes. She uses a range of research methods, including field and laboratory experiments with adolescents in schools, laboratory and online experiments with young adults, as well as the analysis of administrative datasets and population-based surveys. Her research topics include: 1) understanding the role of the family, socioeconomic and peer environment in individual differences in adolescent behaviour and how to promote behaviour that enables success; 2) understanding the role of biases and positive discrimination on decisions and outcomes of women and disadvantaged groups; and 3) understanding the link between stable personality traits that predict long-term outcomes and behaviour observed in the laboratory.

Juliana Silva Goncalves joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in December 2021.
