Kjell G. Salvanes received his Ph.D. in economics from the Norwegian School of Economics in 1988. He is currently Research Professor in Economics at the Department of Economics at the Norwegian School of Economics, and is the Director of CELE (Center for Empirical Labor Economics), and and co-director of The Center of Excellence, FAIR. He is a joint Managing Editor of The Economic Journal since 2012.

His main area of interest is in labour economics, focusing on issues of education and family economics.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in August 2002.
