Joshua T. Dean is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He researches the intersection of economics and psychology, primarily in low- and middle-income countries.
Under this broad agenda, his research can be grouped into three main categories. First, he is interested in how individuals make decisions that may advance or impede poverty alleviation such as deciding whether to adopt a profitable technology. Second, he is interested in how poverty shapes children’s cognitive development and which interventions can help. Finally, he is interested in the economic impacts of gender norms. He hopes that by improving our understanding of these relationships, his research can provide guidance to policy makers on the best ways to improve global equity.
As a former briq Affiliate, he continues to collaborate with the behavioral economics team at IZA as an Associated Member.
