Iwan Barankay is an Associate Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick in 2004. His research focuses on personnel economics, labor economics and political economy with a methodological emphasis on field experiments.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in September 2005.

In 2007 he won the IZA Young Labor Economist Award together with Oriana Bandiera (LSE) and Imran Rasul (UCL) for their paper "Social Preferences and the Response to Incentives: Evidence from Personnel Data," Quarterly Journal of Economics, vol. 120 (3), August, 2005, pp. 917-962.

In 2010 he was awarded a Sloan Research Fellowship.
