Dennis J. Snower is the founder and President of the Global Solutions Initiative and Professor of Macroeconomics and Sustainability at the Hertie School in Berlin. He was President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy from 2004–2019. He obtained his doctorate in Economics from Princeton University in 1975 for his dissertation on "Dynamic Forces of Advanced, Capitalist Economies." He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, the Institute of Advanced Studies, Vienna, a Lecturer at the University of London, and Full Professor of Economics at Birkbeck College, University of London (1989-2004). He has worked and taught at Columbia University, the University of Stockholm, the University of Jerusalem, the International Monetary Fund, the European University Institute, Dartmouth College, and elsewhere. Among others, he received grants and awards from the Social Science Research Council, U.K., from the Nuffield Foundation, and from ESRC. Since 1993 he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In April 1998, he joined IZA as a research fellow and acted as IZA Program Director for the "Welfare State and Labor Market" until 2004.
