Michael Weber

Michael Weber is Senior Economist with the World Bank’s Jobs Group and part of the Social Protection & Jobs Global Practice.

He is also co-Lead of the Labor & Skills Global Solutions Group working with World Bank development practitioners around the globe. Michael is interested in both research and policy applications in the fields of labor markets, skills development, and social insurance. Across these fields he focuses on innovative policies and programs in developing countries. Michael engages with national governments, the private sector, and international associations or organizations to help countries advance their jobs agenda. His work spans the design, implementation, and impact evaluation of policies and programs for better jobs for more people. Michael joined the World Bank in 2008 and has since then worked with numerous low- and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, East Asia, Europe and Central Asia, and Latin America. Michael holds a PhD in Economics and Master’s Degrees in Economics as well as Commerce.

Michael Weber joined IZA as a Research Fellow in July 2021.
