Krzysztof Karbownik

Krzysztof Karbownik is an assistant professor at the Department of Economics at Emory University. He received his PhD in Economics from Uppsala University (Sweden) in December 2013 and holds a master’s degree in Economics along with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Quantitative Methods from Warsaw School of Economics (Poland). Prior to joining Emory, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University.
His work utilizes population-level data for applied microeconomic analyses and public policy. In particular, he is interested in the intersection of health, family, education, crime, environmental, and labor economics with a particular focus on child development and human capital formation. His research has been published, among others, in the American Economic Review, the Journal of Labor Economics, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management.
Krzysztof’s work has also been featured in the New York Times, NPR, Newsweek, the Washington Post, the Telegraph, the Wall Street Journal, and the Onion among other news outlets.

Krzysztof Karbownik joined IZA as a Research Fellow in July 2019.
