Jessamyn Schaller is an Associate Professor of Economics at Claremont McKenna College.

She earned her B.A. in economics at Pomona College in 2005 and completed a Ph.D. in economics at the University of California Davis in 2012. Before moving the Claremont McKenna in 2019, she worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona. In addition to her academic appointment, Professor Schaller is an associate editor at the Journal of Population Economics and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Professor Schaller conducts research in the areas of health, labor, public, and demographic economics. Much of her research relates to gender and family; She has studied how economic recessions affect marriage, divorce, and fertility in the US, and the mechanisms by which changes mothers’ and fathers’ employment and labor market opportunities affect children’s health and well-being.
She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in December 2022.
