Dean Jolliffe is a lead economist at the World Bank with the Development Economics Data Group. He works with both the Global Poverty & Inequality Data and Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) teams. Dean was also a co-director of the 2021 World Development Report: Data for Better Lives, and previously worked in the research group and the South Asia region of the Bank. Prior to joining the World Bank, he was with the Economic Research Service (ERS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, an Assistant Professor at the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education (Prague) and post-Doctoral Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (Washington, DC). He holds positions as an adjunct lecturer at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), a Research Fellow with the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn, and as a Fellow of the Global Labor Organization (GLO). He received his Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in November 2005.
