Susan Steiner is a Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at the Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED) based in Mannheim, Germany. She is also an Affiliate Professor at Leibniz Universität Hannover. She held previous positions at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the University of Manchester, UK, and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies in Hamburg, Germany. She received her PhD from the University of Leipzig in 2007. She works in the fields of development and transition economics, and her current research interest is mainly in microinsurance, household economics, gender, and social networks.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in May 2012.
